How to record your screen and webcam
Allow your camera
Screen + Camera is already selected. When the browser asks, allow the camera and microphone, and your webcam preview appears.
Place the bubble
Pick a circle or rounded rectangle, one of three sizes, and the corner where it covers the least of what you’re showing.
Share your screen and talk
Press Start, choose a screen, window or tab, and explain as you go. The bubble is recorded into the video along with your screen.
Why put your face on a screen recording?
A face in the corner turns a recording into someone explaining something to you, rather than a cursor drifting around on its own. It helps most with onboarding videos, course lessons, product demos and updates to a remote team, where tone matters as much as the content.
It isn’t always the right call. For a bug report or a ten-second how-to, the bubble can get in the way of what matters. Switching between Screen and Screen + Camera takes one click, so decide per recording.
The bubble is drawn into the video itself. It looks the same in every player, and you don’t need an editor to line up two separate files afterwards.
Bubble shape, size and position
Every option can be changed before you start, and the preview shows exactly what will be recorded.
- Shape: a circle suits a talking head. A rounded rectangle shows more of your surroundings, which helps if you’re holding something up to the camera.
- Size: three sizes, from a small bubble that stays out of the way to a larger one for when you’re the main subject.
- Corner: any of the four. Most apps keep menus at the top and status bars at the bottom, so pick the corner your content uses least.
- Mirroring: the camera image is mirrored, which is how most people are used to seeing themselves.
Small things that make a big difference
None of these need new equipment:
- Light your face from the front. A window or lamp behind you turns you into a silhouette.
- Raise the camera to eye level. A laptop on a stack of books works fine.
- Look at the lens when you make a key point, not at your own bubble.
- Close anything private before sharing the entire screen, or share a single window or tab instead.
- Record a ten-second test and play it back to check your sound and framing.
Frequently asked questions
Is the webcam recorded as a separate file?
No. The bubble is part of the screen recording, so you end up with one video you can share straight away.
Can I record just my webcam?
Yes. Choose Camera only and the whole frame is your camera, with your microphone. This also works on phones and tablets, where screen recording isn’t available.
Why can’t the page find my camera?
Check that camera access is allowed for this site in the address bar, and on a Mac that your browser is allowed to use the camera under System Settings › Privacy & Security. If another app is using the camera, close it; some systems let only one app use it at a time.
Which browsers support Screen + Camera?
Current desktop Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox. Chrome and Edge also give you the floating mini controls, so you can pause or stop without going back to the tab.
Can I include my computer’s sound too?
Yes, in Chrome and Edge. Share a tab, or the entire screen with system audio on Windows or a Chromebook, and your voice and the computer’s sound are mixed together.
Is my camera feed sent anywhere?
No. Camera, screen and audio are combined on your computer and saved to your device. There’s no server involved and no account.
What resolution should I choose?
1080p at 30 fps is the default and suits most recordings with a webcam. Choose 1440p or 4K when small on-screen text needs to stay sharp, as long as your screen has that many pixels.
