Screen Recorder for Windows 10 and 11
Record your PC screen with system sound and your microphone in Chrome or Edge. There’s nothing to install, and no files leave your computer.
Recorded and saved on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
How to record your screen on Windows
Open in Edge or Chrome
Edge comes with Windows, so there’s nothing to download. System audio and the microphone are already turned on for this page.
Choose Entire screen
In the share dialog, pick Entire screen, select your monitor and tick “Also share system audio”. Pick a tab instead if you only need one website.
Record, then save as MP4
Press Start, and when you’re done, trim and save. Chrome and Edge let you choose the folder and file name in a “Save as” dialog.
Which share option records system audio?
When the recorder asks what to share, Chrome and Edge offer three kinds of source, and on Windows each one treats sound differently.
So if you’re recording a desktop app, a game or anything outside the browser and you want to hear it, use Entire screen. System audio means everything, including notification chimes and message alerts, so turn on Do not disturb first (Focus assist on Windows 10).
With more than one monitor, Entire screen lists each display separately. Record the one with your content and keep notes or chat on the other.
| Share option | What’s recorded | Sound from your PC |
|---|---|---|
| Entire screen | Everything on the chosen monitor | All system audio, if you tick “Also share system audio” |
| Window | One app window | None |
| Tab | One browser tab | That tab’s audio only |
Edge or Chrome?
Both are built on the same engine, so they capture the screen and audio the same way, record MP4 directly, show the floating mini controls and save through a “Save as” dialog. Use whichever you already have open.
Edge has one small advantage: it ships with Windows, so on a work or school PC where you can’t install software, it’s already there. Firefox runs on Windows too, but it records your microphone only and saves WebM.
How this compares with Snipping Tool and Xbox Game Bar
Windows has recording tools of its own. Recent versions of Snipping Tool on Windows 11 can record the screen, and Xbox Game Bar, opened with Windows key + G, is built around capturing games and apps. If one of them already does what you need, it’s a perfectly good choice. Their features change with Windows updates, so check what your version offers.
Reasons you might reach for this recorder instead:
- A webcam bubble over the recording, in the corner and size you choose.
- Your microphone and system audio mixed, each with its own volume and level meter.
- Pause and resume, markers, cutting out mistakes and pauses, GIF export and MP4 or WebM output in one place.
- Crash recovery that offers your footage back after a crash or reload.
- The same tool on Windows, Mac and Chromebook, so a whole team can follow one set of instructions.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work on Windows 10?
Yes. It runs in the browser, so it works the same on Windows 10 and 11 as long as you have a current version of Chrome or Edge.
Why is my recording silent when I share a window?
On Windows, Chrome and Edge don’t capture sound from a single window. Start again with Entire screen and the system-audio box ticked, or with a tab if the sound comes from a website.
Can I record a game?
Yes. Share the entire screen with system audio and choose 60 fps for smoother motion. For long sessions, keep an eye on the free-space readout, because high-quality video fills a drive quickly.
What keyboard shortcuts can I use?
While the recorder page is focused, Alt + Shift + R starts and stops, Alt + Shift + P pauses, Alt + Shift + M mutes your mic, Alt + Shift + K adds a marker and Alt + Shift + S takes a screenshot. From another app, use the floating mini controls, which stay on top.
Where are recordings saved on Windows?
Chrome and Edge ask where to save, suggesting a name like screen-recording-2026-09-28-14-05.mp4. Firefox saves to your Downloads folder.
Do I need admin rights?
No, because nothing is installed. On a managed work or school PC, though, an administrator can block screen capture in the browser, and then recording won’t start.
Can I record my screen and my webcam together?
Yes. Choose Screen + Camera and a webcam bubble is added to the recording. Allow the camera when Edge or Chrome asks.
