glTF / GLB Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about opening, inspecting, and converting glTF / GLB files in your browser.

What is the difference between glTF and GLB?

glTF is an open standard format where the 3D scene description is stored in a JSON file, often linking to external binary buffers (.bin) and images (.png/.jpg). GLB is the binary container format that packages the JSON, binary geometry buffers, and textures into a single self-contained file.

Does Universal 3D Viewer support Draco-compressed GLB files?

Yes. Universal 3D Viewer automatically initializes our compiled WebAssembly Draco decoder when a model uses KHR_draco_mesh_compression, decompressing complex meshes smoothly in seconds.

Can I preview skeletal animations and morph targets?

Yes. When an animated glTF or GLB is loaded, the viewer displays an interactive animation controller with play/pause, loop, frame stepping, and playback speed adjustments.
