OBJ Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about opening, inspecting, and converting OBJ files in your browser.
How do I open an OBJ file that has textures or an MTL file?
You can drag and drop your .obj file, the accompanying .mtl file, and any texture image files (.png, .jpg) together onto the dropzone. Universal 3D Viewer will automatically resolve local relative texture paths and display the textured model.
Can I export an OBJ model to GLB or 3D printable STL?
Yes. Once loaded, click the Export icon in the toolbar. You can convert your OBJ model directly to binary GLB (with embedded textures), 3D printable STL, or USDZ for Apple AR Quick Look without needing desktop 3D software.
Does this OBJ viewer support quad polygons or N-gons?
Yes. The parser automatically triangulates quads and arbitrary N-gons into valid GPU triangle strips while preserving vertex UV coordinates and smooth surface normals.
