IFC (BIM) Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about opening, inspecting, and converting IFC (BIM) files in your browser.
Can I open large commercial IFC BIM models in my browser?
Yes. Universal 3D Viewer uses web-ifc compiled to WebAssembly, parsing the model directly in your browser. Very large multi-storey models can take a while to process and are bounded by your device memory.
Does this viewer expose the building storey hierarchy?
Yes. You can explore the architectural hierarchy in the left sidebar, toggle visibility for individual storeys (e.g. Ground Floor, Level 1), or isolate specific building element categories like walls or structural columns.
Is proprietary building and client data protected?
Absolutely. Because all calculations, parsing, and rendering occur inside your local browser memory, your model files never leave your device: no blueprints, room names or structural data are sent over the internet.
