Convert PNG to JPG
A photo saved as PNG can be many times bigger than it needs to be. Re-save it as a JPG that email, forms and phones handle happily, one image or a folder full.
Choose a .png image, several, or a whole folder of them.

How to change a PNG into a JPG
Add your PNG files
Drag the .png files or their folder onto this page, tap Open image, or paste a screenshot straight from the clipboard with Ctrl+V.
Pick a fill for see-through parts
JPG is already selected. Areas that were transparent in the PNG are painted white unless you choose a different fill color under More options.
Download the JPG
Save one .jpg, or the whole set as a single zip. Each JPG takes the PNG’s file name, so a folder converts in one go without renaming anything.
FEATURES
What this page does
Smaller files for photos
PNG keeps every pixel exactly, which is wasteful for camera pictures. As JPG the same photo needs only a fraction of the space.
Your choice of fill color
Logos and cut-outs with a transparent background get white behind them by default, or the exact color of the page they will sit on.
Quality you can check
Zoom the compare view to 100% or 200% and hold to see the PNG again, so you can judge edges and text before saving.
Paste, convert, save
Screenshots go from clipboard to JPG without first saving a PNG anywhere: paste, check, save.
When PNG to JPG is the right move, and when it isn’t
PNG is lossless: it stores the picture exactly, which is perfect for things with crisp edges and flat areas of color, and needlessly heavy for anything that came out of a camera. JPG throws away detail your eye is unlikely to miss, which suits photos and gradients very well.
So convert when the PNG is a photo, a scan of a printed picture, or a screenshot that is mostly an image, and the file is too big to email or upload. Think twice when it is a chart, a logo, a diagram or a screenshot full of small text. JPG blurs hard edges slightly and can leave faint speckles around letters, and those files are often small as PNGs already.
| Picture | Better as | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Camera photo stored as PNG | JPG | Huge saving, no visible difference at normal quality |
| Screenshot of a photo or video | JPG | Mostly smooth areas, which JPG compresses well |
| Screenshot of text, code or a UI | PNG | Sharp letters stay sharp, and the PNG is often small |
| Logo, icon or line drawing | PNG | Flat colors and edges, and transparency is kept |
What happens to a transparent background
A PNG can have pixels that are partly or fully see-through; a JPG cannot. Something has to go behind them, and many converters just let the pixels turn black, which ruins a dark logo. Here they are blended over a fill color instead, white unless you choose otherwise, and soft edges such as shadows and anti-aliased curves are blended too, so they stay smooth.
Match the fill to where the image will be used: a slide background, a brand color, or the gray of a web page. If the image must stay see-through, keep it as PNG, or use WebP, which supports transparency and is much smaller.
Screenshots on Windows, Mac, Chromebook and phones
Every desktop system saves screenshots as PNG by default: the Windows Snipping Tool, macOS (Shift-⌘-4), ChromeOS and most Linux desktops alike. Android and iPhone screenshots are PNG files too. That is why a single full-screen capture of a photo can be several megabytes.
You don’t have to save the screenshot first. Copy it, come to this page and press Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac); it opens as if you had dropped a file, ready to save as JPG.
Color depth, metadata and the file name
PNG files can hold 16 bits per channel. Image Studio works at 8 bits per channel in sRGB, the same as a JPG, so nothing is lost that a JPG could keep. Text chunks a PNG may carry, such as the software that made it or a creation time, are not copied into the JPG.
The new file is named after the PNG with the extension changed to .jpg. In a batch, two files with the same name get a number added rather than overwriting each other.
Is it really private?
Screenshots are some of the most private images people have: chats, bank pages, email, work documents. Converting one here means it is read and re-encoded inside your browser tab, and the JPG goes straight back to your device.
Nothing is kept after you close the tab unless you choose to save the file yourself.
You don't have to take our word for it. Three checks:
- Open your browser's developer tools, choose the Network tab, then open and save an image. No request carries your file.
- Open an image here once, then turn on airplane mode and run the same job again. It still works, because nothing needs a server.
- Read the page's response headers: its Content-Security-Policy lets it connect only to this site itself, so there is no outside host a file could go to.

Frequently asked questions
Will my PNG lose quality as a JPG?
JPG is a lossy format, so some fine detail goes, but at the default quality a photo looks the same at normal viewing size. Text and sharp lines show the change first; zoom the compare view to check them before you save.
Why is the JPG bigger than my PNG?
That happens with simple graphics: a PNG of a few flat colors is already tiny, and JPG is not designed for that kind of picture. Keep those as PNG. The size before and after is shown for every file, so you can tell right away.
How do I keep a white background instead of black?
Nothing to do: transparent areas are filled with white by default. Pick another color under More options if the image will sit on a colored background.
Can I convert a folder of PNG screenshots?
Yes. Drop the folder, or select every file. They are converted with the same settings and saved as one zip, or written into a folder you choose in Chrome and Edge.
Is PNG or JPG better for printing?
Print shops accept both. JPG at a high quality is the usual choice for photos because the files are manageable; PNG is better for artwork with text and sharp edges.
Can I make the JPG a specific size in KB?
Yes. Under More options, set a size limit and Image Studio finds the best quality that fits, shrinking the pixel size only if it has to.
