How to convert WebP to JPG
Open the WebP file
Drop the .webp files onto the page or tap Open image. Saved web images often land in your Downloads folder with a .webp ending.
Check quality and background
JPG quality starts at a sensible default. If the WebP has transparent areas, they become white; pick another background color if you prefer.
Save as JPG
Save the .jpg, or save a batch as a zip. The new files keep the original names, with the extension changed to .jpg.
FEATURES
What this page does
Opens where WebP won’t
JPG works in old photo viewers, office documents, print shops and upload forms that still turn WebP away.
Transparency handled
JPG has no transparency. Transparent pixels are filled with white by default, or any color you choose, instead of turning black.
Animated WebP made still
An animated WebP opens as its first frame and the page says so, so you know exactly what the JPG will contain.
Whole folders at once
Convert every WebP in a folder in one go, with the names kept and a single zip to save.
Why websites hand you WebP files
WebP is an image format from Google, released in 2010, that websites use because it is smaller than JPG at a similar look. Browsers have all shown it for years, so many sites now serve WebP automatically, and that is the file you get when you right-click and save.
Outside the browser, support is patchier. Recent versions of Windows Photos and macOS Preview open WebP, but older photo editors, some office software, print kiosks and many upload forms still expect JPG or PNG. Converting is the simple fix.
Why the JPG can come out bigger
Converting doesn’t restore detail that WebP compression removed; it re-encodes the pixels as they are now. Because JPG is a less efficient format, the same picture usually needs more bytes as a JPG. That is expected, not a fault.
If the result is too big for where it is going, lower the quality a little, or set a longest side in More options. Both apply in the same single pass, so the image is only compressed once more.
Transparent WebP images and the background color
Logos, stickers and product cut-outs are often WebP files with a transparent background. JPG can’t store transparency, so something has to fill those pixels. Image Studio fills them with white by default, because most documents and pages are white. Choose another color to match where the image will sit.
If you need to keep the transparency, convert to PNG instead. The WebP to PNG page does that with the same steps.
Is it really private?
Images saved from the web are usually harmless, but a WebP you received from someone else can still be private. Either way, the conversion here reads the file in your browser and writes the JPG straight to your device.
Any EXIF data inside the WebP, such as a camera model or a location, is left out of the new JPG.
You don't have to take our word for it. Three checks:
- Open your browser's developer tools, choose the Network tab, then open and save an image. No request carries your file.
- Open an image here once, then turn on airplane mode and run the same job again. It still works, because nothing needs a server.
- Read the page's response headers: its Content-Security-Policy lets it connect only to this site itself, so there is no outside host a file could go to.

Frequently asked questions
How do I open a WebP file on Windows or Mac?
Any current browser opens a WebP file: drag it into a browser window. Recent Windows Photos and macOS Preview open it too. For apps that don’t, convert it to JPG here and open the JPG instead.
Does converting WebP to JPG lose quality?
A little, because the picture is compressed again as JPG. At the default quality the difference is very hard to see. Use the compare view at 200% if you want to check edges and text.
Why is the JPG larger than the WebP?
WebP compresses more efficiently than JPG, so the same image takes more bytes as a JPG. Lower the quality a step, or reduce the pixel size, if the file needs to be smaller.
What happens to a transparent background?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with white unless you choose another color. To keep the transparency, convert to PNG instead.
Can I convert an animated WebP?
The first frame is converted to a still JPG, and the page tells you the file was animated. JPG can’t hold an animation.
Can I convert a folder of WebP images?
Yes. Drop the folder or select all the files. Every WebP is converted with the same settings, the names are kept, and the results save as one zip.
